雲海嚴選 Taiwanese Dried Fruit Kickstarter is Live
Golden Diamond Pineapples, Irwin Mangoes, and Pearl Guavas sourced from independent farmers, plus the debut of the Yun Hai house brand
Welcome to Yun Hai Taiwan Stories, a newsletter about Taiwanese food culture by Lisa Cheng Smith, founder of Yun Hai Taiwanese Pantry.
Today marks the launch of our dried fruit kickstarter and the inauguration of our in house brand, Yun Hai Selection. Folks who pledge today will get access to preorders at twenty percent off the retail price.
When I started this newsletter, I promised I wouldn’t spam or overly self promote. This is a newsletter about Taiwanese food for Taiwanese food lovers, and it always will be. But, today I’m making an exception. April 20th marks the biggest moment for Yun Hai in the last two years.
Today, we’re launching our own line of dried fruits on Kickstarter. Not only is this a brand new category for us, it’s also the inaugural offering of our house brand, Yun Hai Selection. We plan to use this brand name to represent products that we are ( meticulously) sourcing ourselves. In the case of this fruit, we visited the farms, tried many rounds of product, and witnessed the drying process ourselves. We were excited when a farmer told us on the phone right off the bat that he wouldn’t accept us as a customer if we asked for sugar in the product (at that point, he didn’t know we wanted exactly what he was selling). We are so proud of the product we’re offering and feel it is on par with the products in the best fruit shops in Taiwan.
In addition to feeding our passion for Taiwanese dried fruit, we’re hoping we can create more trade opportunities for fruit farmers in Taiwan by offering access to their products in the United States. I’ve written about our motivations for this project in a previous newsletter, and you can read more about this on our kickstarter page (watch our more-sincerity-less-polish video at the same link).
All folks that back today will get access to EARLY BIRD rewards, which represent 20% off the retail price.
We are so grateful for any support you can offer, whether by backing us or simply spreading the word.
